Christina Petrou was born and grew up in Hertfordshire. She has recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with an Honours Degree in Music. Principal roles on stage have included: Venus Venus and Adonis (Hampstead Garden Opera), Adina L'elisir d'amore (Winterbourne Opera), Lauretta Gianni Schicchi (Opera South East). Other roles include Fiordiligi, Mercedes and Aennchen (Opera scenes, Ponte de Lima Festival, Portugal); Susanna, Atalanta, Donna Elvira and Despina (Opera scenes, Guildhall School of Music and Drama). She has also appeared in the chorus and as cover of Gabriella La Rondine for British Youth Opera; other chorus work includes Cavalleria Rusticana (Barbican Hall and Cervia, Italy) and The Rake’s Progress (Aldeburgh Festival and Opera Faber, Ponte de Lima Festival, Portugal). Christina is also sings regularly at the Bel Canto restaurant in London performing popular arias and ensembles.
Her concert and recital work includes Haydn’s ‘Nelson’ Mass in Waltham Abbey with the Harlow Chorus, Haydn's Missa Sancti Nicolai and Beethoven's Mass in C with the Southend Bach Choir; recitals at St George’s Bloomsbury, Rosslyn Hill Chapel, The Bishopsgate Institute, and she has participated in Graham Johnson’s 1880’s concert series at the Guildhall and the Voiceworks concert at the Wigmore Hall. She has won prizes at the North London Festival and taken part in masterclasses with Dame Kiri te Kanawa.
She is currently appearing as the Sailor in Bury Court Opera’s all-female production of Dido and Aeneas and future plans include Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Nova.
Since graduating from GSMD, Christina Petrou’s operatic appearances include Lauretta Gianni Schicchi; Venus, Venus and Adonis; and Adina L’elisir d’amor. Companies include: British Youth Opera, Hampstead Garden Opera and Opera South East. Future plans include a national tour of Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha with Pegasus Opera, and chorus in Francesca da Rimini and Forza del destino for Opera Holland Park this summer.
