Listen to Óxido - First Repetition
We worked towards creating a piece that would contain elements we wanted to research: suspense, humour and the slowness found in fast motion. The poem used these values to investigate time sequence and transmission and we used a natural conductor which is water to investigate sonic and conceptual possibilities. We decided to keep two separate titles (poem and composition) since they complement each other and both are the result of water as a conductor and the titles provide a visualisation of time in sequence: ripples and oxide. Influenced by Lyotard's definition of timbre as 'sonorous matter' and by Deleuze's approach of 'the refrain', the poem informs of a set of transformations as they occur and enquires whether a first repetition is the result of a 'zeroth' source and its patterning. Óxido carries all these aspects to produce a challenging terrain both in pitch and timbre.
