Luke Tracey was born in Rotherham, South Yorkshire in 1987. He began his vocal training at an early age of nine with Peter Firmani before continuing his training at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is currently in his fourth and final of his Bachelor of Music degree. He has been under the tutelage of Brian Parsons throughout his studies at the Guildhall. Before his classical training, Luke appeared in many Music Theatre productions with various youth theatres. He played Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables (2005) in the Theatre Royal, Wakefied with Wakefield Youth and Community Theatre and also appeared as a soloist in Fosse, A Tribute to Bob Fosse (2006) with the group. Luke still has a strong passion and appreciation for traditional music theatre and he discovered a particular passion for Steven Sondheim‘s works after appearing in Sweeney Todd (2007) with Millrace Productions in Frome, Somerset as Ensemble and Cover Beadle. His first appearance on the opera stage came in 2008 with Dorset Opera’s production of Bizet’s Pearl Fishes as a member of the ensemble. Whilst at Guildhall, Luke has appeared within the chorus of Cavalleria Rusticana at the Barbican and on tour in Italy, with Paolo Olmni in 2007 and within the chorus of Verdi’s Requiem at the Barbican in 2009 and has performed in many concerts with Guildhall’s Opera Ensemble group. He represented Guildhall in the Sondheim Student competition in 2009.
In May-June 2010 Luke premiered a new contemporary song at Wigmore Hall
with Guildhall and Birkbeck College’s Voiceworks Project, and appeared in Iain
Burnside’s 2010 project of Lads In Their Hundreds at Theatro Technis, Camden
