Iria Perestrelo has collaborated with Albert Pellicer and Francisco Coll Garcia to create Óxido - First Repetition.
Born and educated in Portugal, Iria studied piano, singing and general musicianship at Oporto Conservatoire. She pursued a Music Animators Training Programme at Casa da Musica in Oporto. Iria is also a graduate in Information Science from Oporto Faculties of Arts and Engineering. In 2006 she was admitted to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied with Penelope Mackay, and also worked with Sarah Walker, Yvonne Kenny, Eugene Asti and other distinguished teachers. Currently Iria studies with Susan Waters. In 2007 she was invited to represent Guildhall in the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition for young singers. On March 2008 she joined the baroque ensemble Prince and Pauper Consort and sang at the Brighton Early Music Festival Live Scheme 2008, BREMF Live on White Night 2009, at the National Portrait Gallery and Farnham Castle. Iria was selected to take part in the EC Chamber Choir for young talented singers, as part of Europa Cantat XVII Utrecht 2009. Recent performances include a concert of Purcell with the Guildhall Baroque Orchestra c. Pavlo Beznosiuk, and UK première of António de Sousa Dias’ Trois Chansons Inachevées for soprano, tenor saxophone and electronics at the Guildhall School. As a soloist, her performances include Purcell Come, ye Sons of Art and Schubert Mass No.2 in G with the Orchestra Roffensis (at Rochester Cathedral), Vivaldi Gloria and Mozart Coronation Mass with Oporto Conservatoire Orchestra (c. Kammen Goleminov), Mozart Missa Brevis in G, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Fauré Messe Basse and Britten Ceremony of Carols. She also sang “Os Zoocratas”, a portuguese opera by Filipe Pires at Teatro Rivoli, Oporto and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon. Iria gained a broad experience of major choral works while singing in professional ensembles in Europe and the UK. She won first prize in the 1st Singing Competition at Oporto Music Conservatoire, and won second prize and honorary prize in two consecutive years in the Singing Competition at Curso de Música Silva Monteiro, Oporto. Next year Iria will attend the Guildhall Artist Masters Programme in Historical Performance. Future plans include UK première of The First Repetition, a piece of Francisco Coll García with poetry by Albert Pellicer, created specially for the Voiceworks project at the Wigmore Hall, May 2010.
