Xavier Aldana Reyes collaborated with Jane Hebberd to create Constriction.

I am currently a Teaching Assistant at Lancaster University (UK) and Associate Lecturer at MMU Cheshire, where I teach a year 2 course on the Gothic. As a doctoral candidate, I am currently researching the fields of Gothic horror, affect and body theory. Recent and forthcoming publications include a chapter on Foucault and the spectacle of torture for Cinema and the State-Tortured Body (under consideration by Palgrave Macmillan) the mediation of violence for Critical Theory: Violence and Reconciliation (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012, forthcoming) and a chapter on Gothic Landscapes for Where Horror Dwells: Locating Horror Across Media Landscapes (Routledge, 2012, forhtcoming), a journal article on the semiotics of blood for Gothic Studies (Manchester University Press, 2012, forthcoming), another one on nihilistic cinema for EnterText (Brunel University, 2012, forthcoming) and articles on ‘torture porn’ for the edited collections Transgression and Its Limits (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012, forthcoming) and Twenty-First-Century Gothic (CSP, 2010). I have research interests in the field of Gender Studies and have also published articles on formations of sexual identity for the edited collections Bodies that Count: English Studies (Open University of Catalonia, 2011) and the AHRC-funded project Bodies of Work (on-line component, 2010). I have attended over a dozen conferences in the UK and Europe, and I will soon be speaking at the Bram Stoker Centenary Conference in 2012. I am a postgraduate representative for the International Gothic Association, of which I am a member.

In my spare time, I am also a creative writer. My short story, 'Stepping Stones' was published in Dissections (October 2008), a horror journal edited by, among others, Clive Bloom. In 2010, I read two short stories, 'Black Rocks, White Mountain' and 'An Exercise in Exorcism' as part of the Salon creative writing series at Lancaster. I was also invited to contribute a poem, 'Dispossession', for the HIV Vigil day on 1 December 2010. I have completed a first draft of a post-apocalyptic novel, tentatively titled The Harpy's Nest which is eagerly seeking a publisher.
